Ortigia Festival "Artieri" returns with performances in the square and itineraries to discover artisans in the workshop
SYRACUSE - "Artieri Mercato Creativo," Sicily's first Arts and Crafts Festival, will make a stop on the island of Ortigia from July 15 to 24 (6 p.m. to midnight), at Largo Aretusa and various locations around the island.
Get in touch with high Italian craftsmanship, which translates from experience into emotion, observing live how artifacts are made, walking around Syracuse and getting lost in the workshops and ateliers of local artisans, who will tell their stories through their works. This is much more will be the Festival "Artieri.
The craftsmanship, art, culture and creativity of more than 50 Italian artisans will be the absolute protagonists of the 3rd edition of the Festival, conceived and organized by Angela Cacciola and Maria Grazia Barbagallo, and included in the Areasud Network of Festivals and in Italiafestival, the national association that brings together, under the aegis of Agis, the most important Italian festivals.
Not only sector exhibitions and displays of unique products with the creative market, so as to make Made in Italy regain the value it deserves, but also many side events including: book presentations, concerts, more than twenty workshops with live demonstrations of the artisans, exhibitions and widespread walks, in collaboration with the Kairos association, around Syracuse to discover neighborhoods and ancient crafts.
The 2022 edition of "Artieri" once again sees the partnership with Agnese Milazzo and Serena Gilè, creators and curators of the collateral event "The Ways of Talent," which will lead visitors to discover the talents, or rather the "artieri," who precisely in Syracuse cultivate their creative vein: more than twenty participants including photographers, sculptors, illustrators, painters, ceramists, fashion designers, artisans, goldsmiths and set designers will open the doors of their world. Through a "map of talents" visitors will be able to lose themselves in a journey through selected spaces, which for the 'occasion will be transformed into small exhibition galleries (including bars, restaurants, stores, bookstores, craft workshops, ateliers, squares and historic buildings).
No less important are the partnerships with Syracuse Educational City and Stoà Sicula, testifying to the importance of collaborations with associations in the area.
New to the Syracuse III edition is "Sicily of Paper," a new side event in collaboration with Adesi (Association of Sicilian Publishers), which will feature multiple book presentations and playful educational activities throughout the kermis.
Not to be outdone, with "Artieri in Piazza," there will be many artisans, illustrators, designers and stylists who will involve the visitor in the making of the artifact, with live demonstrations: among those who work with clay, those who work with wood, those who create jewelry and those who will make illustrations, artisans will show how to work materials with the use of traditional techniques, giving space for creativity.
In Ortigia, as in the other locations of the Festival, "IllustrArtieri," the project involving four Sicilian illustrators Citylivesketch (Pietro Cataudella), Noemivanpelt(Noemi Listo), Fatti Di Segni (Irene Minissale) and Rosa Donato, will be proposed. Creativity is the watchword: each of them narrated the Festival by creating an illustration with the theme "Arts and Crafts" and host city. In fact, at each stage of the Festival an exhibition will be set up with the works created, which will then be donated to the cities. From the illustrations, moreover, postcards will be made and offered for sale to support the Emergency association and especially those suffering from wars around the world.
