The "Prince's Exhibition" entitled "CONCIAPELLI. Heirs of a Greater Art," set up in the Ballroom of Palazzo Corsini, is dedicated to the "Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium," which, founded in 1994 by a small group of Tuscan tanners, today brings together 20 vegetable-tanned leather tanneries active between the provinces of Florence and Pisa, the only district recognized in the world for this particular type of high-quality processing, which has its roots in Tuscan tradition.
The exhibition aims to tell the story of how Tuscany has been able to create over the centuries the culture of a product that from humble has become iconic, ennobled by the skilled hands of capable workers, the Tuscan cowhide. Visitors to ARTIGIANATO E PALAZZO will be able to learn the secrets of a very ancient workmanship that, now as then, uses only wood extracts-Chestnut, Quebracho, Tara and Mimosa-for the slow process of vegetable tanning that transforms raw hide into leather. It is a prodigious process, an alchemy of ingredients entrusted to the skilful hands of the tanners, who dose the mixtures of natural tannins extracted from plants, the good water of the land and the passage of time, their most faithful ally.
The ARTIGIANATO E PALAZZO exhibition is made possible thanks to the support of Fondazione CR Firenze, Camera di Commercio di Firenze, Fondazione Ferragamo, Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte, Michelangelo Foundation, Baratti&Milano and in collaboration with Artex Centro per l'Artigianato Artistico, Toscana Promozione, Scuola di Arte Culinaria Cordon Bleu Firenze, Casta Cucine, Fornasetti, IED Istituto Europeo di Design, Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, Guri I Zi, Badiani 1932, Starhotels, 25 Hours Hotels, La Ménagère.
