Valentina Musiu was born in 1980 in Olia Speciosa, a small town near the sea in southern Sardinia, spending her summers in a small country village among the land and animals of her grandparents, farmers and ranchers. Fascinated from an early age by art but forced, however, to take a totally different course of study because of her small town's distance from the city, she finished her high school studies and took her revenge by attending Bonelli Editore's comics course and the Faculty of Cultural Heritage at the University of Cagliari. During this period he attended a regional course through which he obtained the title of "Technician of educational laboratories" and began a collaboration with the museum of his village, devoting himself to the organization of exhibitions and cultural events; activities that would prove extremely useful in giving voice to his artistic project.
Her first concrete experiences in the art world came after the age of 30, when she began her activity as a building restorer between Venice and Bologna, which led her to attend a wood restoration workshop and fall in love with this wonderful material. She thus abandoned the field of Construction and devoted herself totally to wood, even managing to obtain a rare qualification in carpentry. Subsequently, he worked for almost four years in a Carpentry and Restoration center in Bologna that organized workshops and training courses and where, thanks to the scraps of carpentry, he began to lay the foundations of what would later become his work.
The idea behind his artistic production, in fact, is to transform carpentry scraps into images and objects: small portions of wood with different thicknesses that create angular and geometric shapes structured on several levels and develop plays of light that change their appearance depending on the viewer's point of view. The initial image, enriched with shadows and new perspectives, thus seems to come out of the wood facing the world and approaching the client. The end result, at times surreal and unordinary, is a three-dimensional product, adaptable to both objects and furnishings. In the first artistic productions on wood Valentina focuses on subjects, shapes and colors, with a strong reference to the marine world inspired mainly by drawings made by other people.
In 2016 she decided to return to Sardinia, move to her grandparents' countryside and transform the old cellar into a workshop. Here, inspired by Sardinian art and her work with children, she decided to redefine the initial project and found her personal way of expressing herself in drawing as well, taking up geometric shapes and removing the superfluous, reducing the images almost to the essential and coloring them with strong, primary colors. His new projects range from Sardinian art to pop icons but also revisit contemporary art and portraiture. A unique and well recognizable style that allows her to offer great space to the requests of her clients, which she then reinterprets through her artistic language.
Today Valentina lives in Rome and makes her works inside the Anonima Macchienette Lab, a workshop shared with other artists/artisans in the Pigneto area returning to Sardinia during the summer periods.
